From those lucky charms that are the ladybugs to the unjustly unloved spiders, from the multicolored butterflies to the so much appreciated bees, from the milipedes that don’t really have one thoussand legs to those voracious predators that are the dragonflies, these little critters we call “arthropods” leave no one indifferent. Forming the majority of animal species, far ahead of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds and fish combined, arthropods can be found everywhere: in forests, in meadows, in dry, wet, hot, cold and aquatic environments, but also in city centre parks, in our streets, in our gardens and even inside our homes! However, despite this omnipresence, this everyday cohabitation, and despite their vital importance in the balance of the biosphere, these animals remain largely unknown to the general public. Even worse: suffering from the scourge of misinformation, prejudices and urban legends, they often become the object of irrational and unfounded fears and are therefore hunted down and eliminated without mercy. Nonetheless, if we agree to put aside these prejudices and bring out that childlike soul that marvelled at ladybirds, we discover an incredible, fascinating and extraordinarily rich world!
Welcome to Le Monde des Arthropodes, the World of the Arthropods! Regain your childlike soul, come and explore this captivating and exciting world! Let yourself be surprised by a tremendous diversity of shapes, colours, functions and behaviours! You will never see them in the same light as before!
Le Monde des Arthropode is a vast and ambitious project made of distinct parts:
- this website to give rigorous information and data about the arthropods
- a Facebook page and an Instagram account for blogging, with photographic and educationnal articles about arthropods met in walks and public animation
- a Flickr gallery illustrating walks and naturalist animations
- a YouTube channel for videos and soon documentaries
